Fort Worth Fly Fishers 2011 Auction - Tuesday, May 3

This year a new location: St. Stephen Presbyterian Church at 2700 McPherson, Fort Worth.

Time is 5:00pm to 10:00pm.

Included in the 2011 Fundraiser is a Kayak Raffle. It's a new line from Jackson Kayaks called the Coosa. This kayak handles great in both still, and moving waters. A must if you are going to fish in Texas. Raffle tickets are $20.00 per ticket, or if you want a really good deal, 5 for $100.00.

Proceeds for the fundraiser go to help our club function throughout the year. Funds will be distributed by the Board of Directors, with the majority of funds going back to various charities we support. Reel Recovery, Casting for Recovery, Project Healing Waters, and the Lower Mountain Fork River Restoration Groups. Please help make this a success by giving to support a great club, and charities.

Texas Fly Fishers Annual Auction - Sat, April 16

The Texas Fly Fishers will hold their annual Auction on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Bethany Christian Church on 3223 Westheimer in Houston. The fishing public is invited to come by and scoop up on some great deals - including a few of a lifetime - on fly fishing gear, fishing art, outdoor gear, and great guided trips. For example, a custom 3-weight bamboo rod by Joel Hubscher, one of his most highly-sought after rods worth $1800!

The trips up for auction include a guided trip for two on a Texas Hill Country river, with all equipment, food, flies, and leaders provided, by Kevin Hutchinson, of HillCountry Fly Fishers, and a trip to Big Kiamichi Ranch in Antlers, Oklahoma, including lodging, for fishing on 5 spring fed lakes! And many others, also!

Admission is FREE. Lunch is available for $9. Raffle tickets are $5. The silent auction is from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with the live auction from noon to 1:30pm. The auction provides 70% of the Texas FlyFishers annual funds and is the club's only fundraising activity. Funds are used to support their educational goals and activities.

Donations of used or new fishing equipment, related artwork, memorabilia, flies, etc can be dropped by any Houston area fly shop, or by calling 713-502-1809 for pickup. RSFF "Fly Fishing 101" - Sat, April 9

The Red Stick Fly Fishers will hold their 6th annual "Fly Fishing 101" clinic on Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 8:30am to 2:30pm, at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' Waddill Education Center at 4142 Flannery in Baton Rouge. The clinic teaches fundamentals of the sport of fly fishing, such as equipment and presentation, along with hands-on learning in skills such as casting, leaders and knots, and fly tying.

The clinic is free to members of FFF clubs, and $25 for non club members (which covers 1-year membership in RSFF). Handouts, coffee, lunch, and refreshments are provided. The club has rods, reels, fly tying vises, and materials available for instruction. However, if you have equipment, it is advised to bring it as it's best to learn on what you own.

Caddo Conclave II - April 29-30

The 2nd annual Caddo Conclave will be held Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, 2011, at Caddo State Park in Karnack, Texas. This event - cosponsored by the East Texas Fly Fishers, Lone Star Fly Fishers, and North Louisiana Fly Fishers clubs - takes place on beautiful Caddo Lake on the Louisiana-Texas border. Described as a "Hands-on Fly Fishing Experience", there's programs, fly tying demos by some of the regions creative and innovative tiers, casting sessions by FFF Certified Instructors, and of course, fishing on premises. Cost is $10, kids under 12 free. Cost includes food and refreshments, and a chance at a great door prize. Big Horn Youth Adventure 2011 - Deadline March 31st

The FFF and The Big Horn River Alliance are co-sponsoring a great opportunity
for young people to expand their knowledge of fly fishing. Twelve (12)
youngsters between the ages of 14-18 will be invited for a 4-day fly tying and
fly fishing adventure. All meals, lodging, airport shuttles and guides will be
provided free of charge. Air transportation to Billings or transportation
directly to Fort Smith must be secured by the participant’s parents, guardian
or fly fishing club, -EXCEPT- there are also a limited number of travel
assistance grants available for youngsters who would otherwise be unable to
attend.

The dates for the Bighorn Youth Adventure will be June 23 through 26, 2011 with
a travel day before and after. All clubs and councils and individuals are more
than welcome to encourage applications from young fly fishers.

Anyone who is interested in applying for this opportunity must fill out an
application form. The form asks for names and addresses of both parents and
applicants, questions regarding angler experience, health and diet questions,
and more. There are also three essay questions at the conclusion of the
application. The 12 youths asked to attend will be selected by the Bighorn
River Alliance based upon their experience and the quality of their essay
question answers. Application deadline is March 31, 2011.

Fly Tying Festival coming February 5, 2011

Texas FlyFishers would like to invite you to attend the 19th Annual Dr. Ed Rizzolo Fly Tying Festival, to be held at Bethany Christian Church, located at 3223 Westheimer on February 5 , 2011. The doors will open at 9:00 am the event will run until 4:00 pm. Admission is $10.00 for Adults, $5.00 for Students (with valid I.D.) and Seniors (62+) and, $15.00 for Families. Children under 12 get in for Free. This year the featured fly tyer is Tim Borski. We anticipate having in excess of 50 tiers from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas , Arkansas, and New Mexico present, tying every type of fly imaginable. This is your opportunity to come watch, and question the masters of the art. There will be six one-hour special presentations, a casting area will be set up in the church parking lot and the ever popular Danish casting games will be conducted under the able supervision of our illustrious President, Dave Lemke, on the front lawn of Lamar High School, which is directly across the street from the church. Numerous vendors will also be present demonstrating and selling their products.

Al Crise Day II - A Charitable Event

This event, hosted by the Fort Worth Fly Fishers, is held in honor of the late Al Crise, or Ol' Al as he called himself. Al was a gifted teacher to youth and adults alike, a tireless proponent of the sport of fly fishing, an advocate for the FFF, and a leader in the field of therapeutic fly fishing. Al was instrumental in helping the Gulf Coast Council become a reality. He served as an advisor to the Council, served as Casting Chair for our early conclaves, and promoted the GCC on both a regional and national level.

The Fort Worth Fly Fishers will be having this event in his honor to raise funds for two great organizations, Reel Recovery and Casting For Recovery. There will be a lunch served, and there will be activities throughout the day. There's also a raffle, live auction, casting lessons and games, and much more. Acadiana Fly Rodders Conclave - Sat, February 26

The Acadiana Fly Rodders will hold their 23rd annual conclave on Saturday, February 26, at Grace Presbyterian Church Hall in Lafayette, LA. The location is on 415 Roselawn Blvd. Doors open at 8:30am and activities run until 4:30pm. There's programs, fly tying, casting seminars and games, raffles, exhibitors, food and refreshments, and much more.

Headlining this year's event is Lee Davison of Idaho. Davison is founder of Snake River Outfitters, a FFF Master and Two Hand Casting Instructor, Chairman of the Board of Governors for the FFF Guide Board, and much more. As a licensed Idaho Fishing Guide, Lee has over 25 years of experience on the North and South Forks of the Snake River. He is a graduate of Texas, and previously worked as Project Manager for Idaho National Laboratory and several large engineering firms.

20th annual Red Stick Day - Sat, March 5

Each year, the first Saturday of March is "Red Stick Day", a fly fishing festival hosted by the Red Stick Fly Fishers. Location is LDWF's Waddill Outdoors Education Center on 4141 Flannery Road in Baton Rouge. Time is 8:30am to 4:00pm. The largest annual fly fishing event in the eastern part of the council is free and family-friendly. Activities include: Programs, Fly Tying demos, Casting demos, Kayak and Canoe demos, Cooking demos, Exhibitors, Fishing on premises, Free refreshments, a Jambalaya lunch, raffle with nearly 100 items, and more! For their vigintennial celebration of this event, special guest will be Gary Borger. For over 40 years, Gary has been involved in our sport as an author, teacher, lecturer, magazine writer, photographer, conservationist, and more. He combines his knowledge as a Ph.D. professor of aquatic biology with a lifetime experience of fly fishing (he grew up on the banks of one of Pennsylvania's trout waters). Gary pioneered the first fly fishing and fly tying videos, and written a half-dozen books, and written and photographed for numerous magazines, and served on the board of the Federation of Fly Fishers and FFF Casting Board of Governors.
